Module: Raschèr Academy Orchestra
Creating chances for young musicians
For 50 years, the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet has attached great importance to working with the new generation of aspiring saxophonists of all levels. With the Academy Orchestra, it founded an ensemble of excellence at the Nordkolleg in 2021.
The saxophone orchestra, which consists of 12 instrumentalists, is regularly formed for special projects with the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet. The program is aimed at ambitious instrumentalists who are building their careers. Young musicians are given the opportunity to make music at a high level in the orchestra and to take part in international exchanges.
In 2022, the program included the world premiere and a recording of the new composition of Schubert's »Winterreise«. Jay Schwarz set several Schubert songs to music for the 12-piece saxophone orchestra in an innovative way.
The first phase of the Raschèr Academy Orchestra took place in May 2021 and it ended with a remarkable concert. In February 2022, the academics made their first trip to Estonia to the Arvo Pärt Center. Working with one of the most famous composers of our time not only marks a big step in someone's career, it also inspires someone’s own work and values the young artists in a very special way.
